Text Box: Olives

Water and heat stress can reduce the yield and quality of olives and reduce oil production.  University of Cordoba (Andalusia) studies show that photosynthesis stops at temperatures of 36C and higher.  This can lead to a diurnal halt to photosynthesis during the critical time of sugar accumulation prior to conversion to oil.

In addition, heat and water stress can reduce critical quality components responsible for oil storage stability and flavor.

SCREEN will reduce reflect radiation, keeping olive trees cooler.  Cooler trees will also use less water for cooling through evapotranspiration.

Olive Heat Stress

· Two Screen applications can provide an increase in olive yield of 20% or more

· Screen  can improve the water status of olives, reducing the demand from soil for water used to cool trees through evapotranspiration

· Screen will reduce olive tree midday by up to 5°C, protecting against shutting down photosynthesis, and help prevent the formation of damaging  oxidative radicals.

Use Directions:

Apply Screen as a 5 percent solution to olive trees in sufficient water volume to drip. Ensure that the upper parts of the canopy obtain good coverage. Begin applications when olives are 1 cm in diameter and prior to the onset of hot conditions (30°C).

Make a second application of 2.5 percent to 5 percent three to four weeks after the first application.

Make additional applications as necessary to maintain film.
